Trumansburg After School Program
Meeting family child care needs since 1985. Founded by parents.
About TASP
Founded by parents in 1985, the Trumansburg After School Program (TASP), Inc. is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization. TASP is designed to meet family child care needs. Children who attend the Trumansburg Central School in grades PreK through 6 may enroll in TASP. Our program is located at the First Presbyterian Church of Ulysses Chapel at 69 East Main Street, Trumansburg, NY.
Our current program has two age groups, PreK to 2nd grade, and 3rd grade to 6th grade. The program operates Monday through Friday, 2:45 PM to 5:45 PM. We have developed the program to keep children healthy, and safe, during the chaos of COVID-19. We are following all NYS child care mandates, and recommendations, for re-opening a school-age child care program.
The Fun Stuff
Our program is designed to be flexible and to respond to the children’s needs and interests. A variety of activities are offered with a view to introducing children to new skills and hobbies – think baking soda volcanos, rubber band bracelets, and exploring art and science. Enrichment opportunities are often presented by specialists who have shared shows and skill building workshops like gingerbread making, jewelry making, pottery, and clowning.
We take field trips, which are both educational and recreational. We believe that an after school program should be less-structured than the school day, while still providing educational experiences. We embrace the concept that TASP is our children’s neighborhood. Youth should be involved in their community with walking field trips and organized community service. Walking field trips are temporarily suspended due COVID safety concerns.
